General Queries

What is LitPins&Co?

LitPins&Co is a small bookish business, made for readers, by readers. We create beautiful and unique bookish merchandise and special edition books for book lovers everywhere! To find out more about our story, head to our about page.

How does the LitPins&Co grading system work?

Grade A

"A grade" pins represent the highest quality from a batch and appear as intended. These pins may have minor imperfections that are only visible upon close inspection under bright light.

Common A grade blemishes include:

  • Slight enamel under-fill, not easily noticeable
  • Subtle imperfections in metal plating
  • Light scuffs or surface scratches on the enamel or metal
  • Small, single nicks on the enamel or metal
  • Minor dust particles mixed into the glitter or enamel
  • Slight offset in screen printing

Ideal for displaying on bookshelves, pin banners, or any indoor space. While A grade pins are in excellent condition and suitable for outdoor wear, we recommend using a protected space – like an ITA bag – when worn outside to minimise the risk of wear and damage.

Grade B

"B grade" pins have visible flaws that can be noticed in normal lighting. The severity of these blemishes can vary, with some being more pronounced than others. Despite this, B grade pins remain great for display if a collector is okay with minor imperfections and are a more affordable option for wearing.

Common B grade flaws include:

  • Moderately scuffed enamel or metal
  • Multiple imperfections in the metal plating
  • Several air bubbles in the enamel
  • Small portions of missing enamel
  • Overfilled enamel that covers some metal lines
  • Excess glitter in unintended areas
  • Small gouges or marks in the enamel

While a B grade pin may not be as pristine as an A grade, it is still highly wearable and can be a great addition to any collection!

Grade C

"C grade" pins have multiple obvious defects that are immediately noticeable from arm's length under normal lighting. These flaws may make them less ideal for display, but they remain wearable and are the most affordable option for this purpose.

Common C grade defects include:

  • Large, noticeable areas of scuffing
  • Deep gouges or scratches in the enamel
  • Large or multiple areas of under-filled enamel
  • Multiple imperfections in the metal plating
  • Numerous air bubbles in the enamel
  • Noticeable off-set or missing screen printing
  • Multiple missing metal lines
  • Areas of enamel staining or discolouration
  • Large or multiple areas where enamel is missing

While C grade pins are less common, they can still be a fun addition to a collection for those who are a little less precious about their pins!

How are books and merch projects choosen at LitPins?

At LitPins, our motto is made for readers, by readers and that's true to the core. We pick projects we're excited about and love, whether they're inspired by books, tv shows, films, or just general themes. If someone on the team loves something and has an idea, then we're more than happy to explore it!

We work closely with publishers and artists who love these stories as much as we do, and this ensures that our products are consistently the highest quality possible.

If you have any suggestions for special edition books you'd love to see or merchandise you'd adore, there's a channel to share your suggestions in our Discord server! You can join the server here.

What is the difference between your special and legacy edition books?

Our Special Editions celebrate new or recent releases, with all the customisations that you've grown to know and love. For example, our edition of The Incandescent is a Special Edition, as the book has recently been published.

Legacy Editions are more of a celebration of a bookish milestone, such as the anniversary of publication, or are editions of books chosen from an author's backlogs. For example, our very first LitPins edition, Vicious, was a Legacy Edition as it was chosen from V.E. Schwab's backlog and released to coincide with the 10 year anniversary. These Legacy Editions sometimes have little extras or customisations that the special editions don't!

Why are pre-orders for your special/legacy edition books so long?

LitPins&Co is a small company with less than ten of us working here, so spacing out our projects helps us to give each project the love and care it deserves, without overwhelming the team!

Also, as readers ourselves, we know that fomo can occur and with so many special editions out there, we want to make sure everyone who wants to purchases from us is able to save up to do so.

We're also aware that tighter deadlines can add stress to artists and make them feel rushed - we want to give you all the best products we can so it's important to ensure that everyone we work with has adequate time.

I can't afford to place an order straight away, can I set up a reservation order to pay for later?

Yes! Absolutely, we're conscious that sometimes we'll announce a special edition and not everyone will be able to afford it straight away and may need some time to save up.

If this applies to you, simply email us at help@litpinsandco.com with the items you'd like to reserve and we can set up a reservation for up to a month from the date you contact us.

How do I get LitPins Loyalty Points and how do I use them?

You will earn LitPins loyalty points on every purchase made after January 2025! To view your points, simply click on little present icon in the bottom right of your screen and log in with your email.

You can earn points in a variety of ways, such as creating your account, placing orders through our website, leaving a review, subscribing to the newsletter, and more! My question wasn't answered on this page, what should I do?

When in doubt, always feel free to email us at help@litpinsandco.com as we're more than happy to answer any question and put your mind at ease.

Orders

Can I add something to my order or combine orders?

We're always happy to add to orders or combine them if possible, depending on if they've been dispatched yet or when they're due to be dispatched.

If you'd like to add to your order before it is dispatched, please email us at help@litpinsandco.com with your order number and we’ll happily add the item(s) for you.

If you've already placed a second order and you'd like to combine them, email us at help@litpinsandco.com with each order number and we'll be able to look into this and see what we can do for you.

Please note, if one of your items has a long pre-order period, we will not be able to combine this order with another order containing merchandise which is ready to ship. We only have a very small warehouse, and cannot hold excess items for long!

There are also occasionally some restrictions on combining orders due to weight limits when shipping, for example when shipping bigger box sets of books. If this is the case, we'll let you know when you email us!

How do pre-orders work?

Pre-orders are for items that haven’t been manufactured yet. They help us gauge interest, give us the freedom to experiment with new ideas, and also serve as a way to fund exciting new projects! Think of it like Kickstarter but without the extra fees!

Every pre-order item includes an estimated shipping date in the title and listing. If you order several items and one of them is a pre-order, then you will be charged postage for the items that can be dispatched immediately and postage for the pre-order item when it is ready.

To avoid any confusion, we recommend ordering pre-order items separately.

I’ve changed my mind. Can I cancel my order and get a refund?

To cancel or return an order, please contact us at help@litpinsandco.com with your order number.

If your order hasn't shipped yet, we can cancel it for a full refund.

If you want to return items after they’ve shipped, please email us and we'll be able to look into this for you. Please be aware that additional costs may be at the purchaser's expense in returning items depending on the situation. Once we receive the returned items, we’ll issue a refund minus the cost of shipping. We can only process refunds for items that are unopened and in their original condition.

Items are missing from my order. What should I do?

If items are missing from your order, please email us as soon as possible at help@litpinsandco.com stating your order number and details about the missing items. We’ll refund or replace missing items at no extra cost to you.

Payments

When is payment taken for an order?

Payment is taken at the point of ordering, regardless of when the item(s) will be shipped. This means that, if your order includes a pre-ordered product, it can be dispatched as soon as it is available without issue.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept a variety of payment methods. Please check the footer of our website to see the full list of payment methods available.

Do you allow payments in installments?

We do allow payments in installments via PayPal's Pay in Three method.

Can I change my payment method after placing an order?

We take payment when an order is placed and therefore cannot change the payment method after the order is placed.

If you need to change your payment method, email us as soon as possible at help@litpinsandco.com to cancel your order. We’ll refund the original payment method and you can then reorder using the payment type of your choice.

Do you offer partial refunds for returns?

Yes! If you want to return part of your order, please return the items to us at your own expense.

Once we receive the returned items, we’ll issue a refund minus the cost of shipping.

We can only process refunds for items that are unopened and in their original condition.

Shipping

When will my order be dispatched?

As a small business, we typically aim to dispatch orders at least once a week or within 5 business days - whichever comes first.

However, during busier periods such as sales, products launches or holiday shopping, our dispatch times may be slightly longer.

We'll aim to keep everyone informed as much as possible via our social media and newsletter.

When will my order arrive?

All UK orders are shipped via Royal Mail Tracked 48 as standard. International Orders can take up to four weeks to arrive from dispatch. Please refer to your tracking email to check the status of your order, and if you need a more specific estimate then please email us at help@litpinsandco.com and we can look into this for you.

Every pre-order item includes an estimated shipping date in the title and listing, and we will keep you all updated if there are any changes to this via our newsletter and social media.

If your order has not arrived within four to six week of the estimated delivery time, please email us at help@litpinsandco.com so we can look into this.

Do you ship overseas?

Yes, we ship globally! If you’d like to check that we ship to your country then please email us at help@litpinsandco.com.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs are dependent on location, order weight and current exchange rate. They’re calculated at checkout before placing your order. Please note that your country may charge customs duties and/or taxes upon arrival.

If your order contains pre-order items, you will be charged shipping for this separately to the shipping cost for any items that are ready for immediate dispatch. This is because we cannot hold your order for long enough to dispatch the items together - to avoid any confusion and excess costs, we'd recommend ordering pre-order items separately!

Please be aware that IOSS duties and USA tarriff duties are the customers' responsibility, but these will be added at checkout to avoid any nasty surprises!

Will my order include tracked shipping?

Yes! We ship every order from the shop with tracked shipping regardless if you've ordered a single pin or a whole trove of goodies.

We find shipping with tracking provides peace of mind on both sides, and if something goes wrong during transit we're in a better place to other a resolution.

My tracking link isn’t working. What should I do?

If your tracking link isn’t working, please email us at help@litpinsandco.com and we will look into it for you.

I've changed my address on my account, will it change on my order?

If you’ve changed your address on your account, it may not update on your order.

If you need to change your address, please email us at help@litpinsandco.com to let us know so that we can ensure this is updated and sorted for you.

Why is the cost of shipping so expensive?

Our shipping is the price it is because we use Royal Mail!

We have found this to be the most reliable delivery service (we've only had two major shipping issues in the last six months) and we appreciate that they attempt to offset their carbon footprint. We understand this can translate to higher shipping costs, but we believe that this is worth it to be as certain as possible that your order will reach you safely!

Also, we're only based in the UK! Lots of companies are able to have warehouses in other locations, such as the States, which can reduce shipping costs. As we're a small company, however, this just isn't viable for us and everything is shipped from the UK.

Damages and Refunds

The merch in my order arrived damaged, what should I do?

If any of the items in your order arrive damaged, please email us as soon as possible at help@litpinsandco.com stating your order number and details about the damaged items. We’ll refund or replace damaged items at no extra cost to you.

Please be aware that B/C graded items are advertised as defective and, therefore, cannot be refunded.

The special edition book/s in my order arrived damaged, what should I do?

If any of the books in your order arrive damaged, please email us as soon as possible at help@litpinsandco.com stating your order number and details about the damaged items. Where applicable, we will refund or replace damaged items at no extra cost to you.

Please note, some minor damages or imperfections are to be expected due to the nature of the product and therefore do not qualify for a refund. These include:

  • Any damage to the slipcase. Slipcases are intended to protect the books and therefore are inherently more likely to get damaged. Any imperfections on the slipcase that are not an issue with manufacturing (i.e. incorrectly printed) do not qualify for a refund.
  • Small scratches or minor dents on the dust jacket or hardcover that do not impact the overall design or reading experience do not qualify for a refund. A level of natural wear and tear due to shipping and reading is unfortunately inevitable.
  • Minor imperfections on the sprayed edge that do not impact the overall design of the sprayed edge do not qualify for a refund.

If you're unsure if your book would be classed as damaged, please email us at help@litpinsandco.com. We will look into it and let you know if your order would qualify for a refund. In some circumstances, we may also be able to offer an exchange.

Please note, if you order a book which is advertised as B-grade this cannot be refunded, as these books are advertised as damaged.

The metal on my enamel pins has started to change colour. What should I do?

Don’t worry, metal tarnish is completely normal. You can find a variety of products online that are specifically designed for cleaning silver and gold-plated items. We recommend using a polish-infused cloth, as it’s gentler on the surface than other products and will minimise the risk of applying too much polish and causing additional damage.
